Hideto Takarai aka Hyde (b. January 29, 1969, in Wakayama, Japan) is the singer for the Japanese rock band L'Arc~en~Ciel. Hyde keeps his personal information secret. He confirmed his birthdate in an interview for the 2002 March issue of Rockin On Japan. [1] He joined L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1991 after leaving another band called Jerusalem's Rod where he was the guitarist.
In addition to being the lead singer and main lyricist of L'Arc~en~Ciel, Hyde has solo projects, as well as his own independent record label called VAMPROSE.

1. - In Hyde's childhood, his mom forced him to sleep in dress-like pajamas, which he tore apart everynight.
2. - His mom also forced him to go to school with a red backpack. (This was considered very girlie at the time.)
3. - He was really popular among the girls in elementary school (who can blame them? ;P), and was envied by the guys.
4. - His dad forced him to take karate lessons (Shaolin Martial Arts), to stop him from being such a crybaby.
5. - His childhood dream was to become a manga artist, drawing manga such as Lupin III.
6. - His other childhood dream was to become Kamen Rider (Kamen meaning "Mask" or "Masked"), a popular superhero during the 1970s. It was a power ranger type of show. XD
7. - He had his first kiss when he was 12.
8. - He's been smoking cigarettes since he was 15.
9. - He smokes about a carton a day (25-30), and in particular, smokes when watching movies or writing lyrics.
10. - As a teenager, he got into a biking accident and passed out in a ditch. A farmer later found him and drove him to the hospital. Now he has a scar on his neck from the incident, and says he owes his life to that farmer.
11. - Hyde used to be a drum teacher, and was apparently very strict. (ah well, doesn't matter to me, I'd still want him as my teacher 8D)
12. - He also used to work for Mister Donuts, a popular chain of Japanese donut shops. xD
13. - When first breaking into the indies scene, Hyde called himself Hide, then he changed his name to hyde, and again, when he went solo, changed it to HYDE. Whatever, I just call him Hyde. It all sounds the same anyway.
14. - Originally, Hyde didn't want to be a vocalist. He thought a guitarist had a much cooler position, and considered the vocalist to be boring. x_x Anyway, Tetsu still convinced him to become L'Arc~en~Ciel's singer.
15. - Hyde once said he wanted cats as pets, but was allergic to them. Instead, now, he has crickets as pets. A fan sent them to him. xD
16. - Hyde is colorblind. His vision isn't limited to only black and white, though. He has the colorblindness which lacks green cones. Anyway, his colorblindness was what stopped him from pursuing a career in art.

18. - He also hates taking baths; he prefers showers.
19. - He also really hates washing his hair everyday. (I'm sure any fangirl would love to wash his hair for him 8D)
20. - Hyde doesn't believe in any religion, but is not athiest. (I'm guessing he's agnostic, then.)
21. - Once during a radio interview, Hyde was asked what three jobs he would have if he weren't in L'Arc~en~Ciel. He said he would either be a bartender, a designer, or a "lover" XD
22. - In 2000, Hyde broke his ribs during a go-kart race. That still didn't stop him from performing during the scheduled concerts (damn, such skillz). He even wore a fashionable leather rib brace.
23. - Hyde's first solo album is entitled Roentgen, after the German doctor who discovered X-Rays.
24. - He recorded his first solo album in London, and used the assistance of some random famous London orchestra.
25. - Also, when living in London for a year, the owner of the cafe where Hyde often visited referred to him as "Golden Boy," probably after his [dyed] blonde hair. Hyde also mentioned that the people in London thought he was a lot younger than he really is. (well, can you really blame them? XD)
26. - When performing Shallow Sleep (English) during his Taiwan concert, Hyde messed up the lyrics and instead of singing "without you here," he sang "you disappeared." He admits to often forgetting his own lyrics.
27. - Anemone was performed once during Shibuya Seven Days 2003. Before singing the song, Hyde said "To my love... Anemone." Supposedly, Hyde wrote the song for his wife. Honestly, this theory makes sense, since it was released right around 2000, when Hyde got married. And the lyrics sound very... marriage-y, with lines such as "Ah my wish is but one, to entrust my eternal vow to those hands."
28. - Hyde's best advice for how to keep your voice in tact - "No sex before a live." XD
26. - Hyde's second solo album is entitled 666, not as in the devil's number, but rather when pronounced in Japanese ("roku roku roku"), it sounds like "rock rock rock."
29. - Hyde thought of Smile's album name.
30. - According to a 2004 interview, Hyde's regular sleeping schedule is going to sleep at 4-5 AM, and waking up around 1 PM. (Sounds like me on weekends XD)
31. - Hyde designed the artwork for the Killing Me single, released in January 2005.
32. - Hyde claims to be a "lifetime dancer." He's also taken breakdancing lessons once a week for two years (and yet he still dances so girlie *cough*StayAwayGirlyHipShake*cough*)
33. - In a 1996 interview, Hyde described his methods of relieving stress: playing video games or hugging a girl. (awwww)
34. - Supposedly, the reason Hyde doesn't reveal his blood type (on the official site or wherever) is because he's inhuman and has black blood. Yeah, suuuuuure, Hyde XD
35. - Hyde's essential things he must carry whenever going outside: wallet, cellphone, and cigarettes. He says if he ever forgot his cigarettes when leaving his house, he would "die on the streets."
36. - Hyde can barely swim. When he went to Hawaii for vacation, he had his manager send him a fax teaching him how to swim XD
37. - Hyde only wrote the chorus of New World, but he still gets partial credit for composing the song.
38. - Hyde believed in Santa Claus until he was in 9th grade.
39. - During the filming of the Jyojyoushi PV, when Hyde exited his dressing room and went onto the scene, he was shocked and slightly embarassed seeing so many naked men and women all around him. So, he says, if you notice in the PV his eyes are often downcast XD
40. - Two of the songs on the Awake album, Ophelia and My Dear, were originally intended for Hyde's first solo album Roentgen. Of course, they were slightly changed afterwards for the Awake album.
41. - Hyde says the main feeling he had in mind when composing the music and lyrics for Awake was unconditional/unexplainable love, rather than just a lover's kind of love. He also says the entire album's focus is love and peace.
42. - Hyde is very close friends with the vocalist of Monoral, Anis. Anis did the English speaking (rap?) during Masquerade, one of the songs on Hyde's 666 album.
43. - Hyde wants to buy a home in Los Angeles. He plans on dying there, sipping tea near a pool as his grandkids call for him. (note: he doesn't have any grandchildren... yet)
44. - Hyde's addicted to buying computers. Instead of upgrading his current laptop, he always just buys a new one to keep up with new technology.
45. - Hyde considers "Twinkle, Twinkle" (off the Awake album) a challenging/difficult song to sing.
46. - Hyde cried when watching the Fullmetal Alchemist movie (which, by the way, L'Arc~en~Ciel did the opening and ending themes for)
47. - Hyde says he thinks of women as flowers, which would (partially) explain why the covers of his Roentgen singles are all of flowers and would also further explain how the song Anemone (a flower) is dedicated to his wife.
48. - When they were dating, Hyde and Megumi (now his wife) had matching Nekojiru cell phone charms.
49. - Hyde said he's never loved anyone enough to die for them / commit suicide because they're gone. (This was said during a Kagen no Tsuki interview)
50. - Hyde said if he was an animal, he would be a red panda. As for his opinion on the other members, he thinks Ken would be a dog, Yukki would be an elephant, and Tetsu would be a cat.
51. - Hyde has said if he had to marry any of the other members of Laruku, he would marry himself. In a much earlier interview (around 1995), when asked the same question, Hyde said he would marry Sakura.
52. - Hiroki, Hyde's bassist in his solo band, says that Hyde reminds him of a red panda. Especially because of his attitude XD
53. - Hyde really likes antique European style furniture, so most of the furniture in his house is of that style. He also enjoys collecting antique Japanese pottery: dishes, cups, etc.
54. - Hyde said that most of the love described in his lyrics is based on his own experiences.
